The pros and cons of hair transplants

There are serious cases wherein hair re growth is a tad slower even if medicinal therapy is being applied. Most of these cases are having baldness in just a small portion of their scalp. This is not good to look at because uneven hair distribution is not right. So, in the event of experiencing severe hair loss, the person can opt for hair transplant. Hair transplant works by harvesting hair from different parts of the body and surgically transplant it into your scalp. However, before the doctor does this step, he has to make sure that thorough assessment will be conducted.

  • Age should be 18 years old and above
  • Been to an unsuccessful medicinal treatment for hair re growth
  • Clear scalp with no presence of infection
  • No history of chronic neither systemic disorders
  • Smoking and alcohol cessation preferably 2 to 3 weeks prior the scheduled surgery

Once the doctor is done with the assessment, he will then decide whether to go for the surgery or no. In the event that there is a doctor’s approval, the patient will now have to stop any medications taken as well as to stop drinking alcoholic beverages for these can cause serious post operative bleeding.

This type of bleeding will eventually be gone once applied with direct light pressure.


Itchiness –Due to the process of healing, itchiness of the site is normal. You have to divert your attention and to never scratch off the site for doing so will make you introduce infection into the wound. One of the effective ways to alleviate the itchiness is by shampooing.

Pain –Pain is expected to happen and to last for a number of days. You can drink pain relievers to alleviate the pain though.

Swelling of the site – It is one of the most common side effects of hair transplant. Swelling that lasts for 4 to 6 days is normal which is expected to subside on the 7th day.
